Standing across the room,
they looked at each other.
She
struck with absolute terror
and awe.
He
with absolute love
and fathomless tenderness.
She had
fought
too many battles,
along with her family.
The loss
of her father
had started it all.
Her
mother’s illness
had compounded it.
Their
house felt like a boat
on a rough ocean,
Tossed to
and fro
by every wind.
She had
watched
the people she loved
suffer.
She did
not want
to be another burden.
She had
seen enough.
If this
was
all that life had to offer,
she did not want
any of it.
She
looked at Him
through eyes filled
with terror and awe.
This was
the Son of Man.
And He
was standing
right in front of her,
Bathed in
dazzling light
The room lit up
as though a million tube lights
had come on
at the same time.
She could
hardly look at Him.
And then,
softly, He whispered,
“I got you.
I have your back.
Nothing you need to face in life
will you face alone.
I am there with you
till the very end.
Together,
we cannot lose.”
And
somewhere
deep within her spirit
came the words
“If God is for us,
who can be against us?”
And with
those words,
the fear that had held her
began to loosen its grip.
The timid
girl
who had once been afraid
of what tomorrow might bring
began to disappear.
In her
place
stood a young woman
who knew her God.
She not
only knew Him
she had seen Him
face to face.
That
changed everything.
For now
she knew
for a fact
The Son of God was real.
He was not dead.
He was alive.
And if He
was with her,
No weapon formed against her
would prosper.
For you
see,
He had personally come
to save her
When she had reached
the limits of her existence.
She knew
He would never leave her
nor forsake her.
But more
than that
He would love her
from everlasting
to everlasting.
As the
Psalmist says:
“But from everlasting to everlasting
the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s children.”
Psalm
103:17 NIV
And again,
the Lord says:
“I have loved you
with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you
with unfailing kindness.”
Jeremiah
31:3 NIV
And
suddenly,
she understood
She had
not been forgotten.
She had
not been abandoned.
She had
not been fighting alone.
The Great I AM
had come looking for her.
